Massive Aggregation of Mobula Rays
The Sea of Cortez once called “The Aquarium of the World” has an abundance of species and a breathtaking scenery, both above and below. During the summer months in the Sea of Cortez we can witness a magnificent migration of Mobula rays. They can aggregate in thousands, allowing freedivers and snorkelers to experience one of the most spectacular events on the planet. Between May-June, Mobulas form a dense group called ‘fever’ to feed, mate and give birth to young pups. The giant fever is usually found on the surface where countless Mobulas jump out of the water like Popcorn.
Swim with Sea lions, Dolphins and Rays
The Sea of Cortez is also home to a large number of marine mammals such as sea lions and dolphins. Guests can visit the sea lions colony and find a big pod of dolphins along the way.
Many species of cetaceans including Blue whales, Bryde whales, Sperm whales, Humpback whales, Pilot whales, and False killer whales also call this place home.
Orca Encounter
Although there are no guarantees, this has been a good time to see ORCA. The killer whales in these waters travel long distance along the coast of Baja Peninsula. During these months, they are seen more often hunting Mobulas, dolphins and sharks. If lucky, swimmers can get in the water to see them or even swim alongside the orcas.
